Our Cattle

Our herd consists of two parts: our commercial herd and our registered herd. Within our commercial herd, we have cows with both known and unknown lineage. All these cows have proven their worth by displaying structural soundness and producing good calves.

Our registered herd is often mixed in the same field as our commercial cows, but they simply have a registered pedigree with their respective breed associations. Our registered herd includes Beefmaster, Limousin, Brangus, and Simmental, consisting of Purebred, Simangus, Fullblood (Fleckvieh), and Simbrah cattle. The registered cows provide a great foundation for our premium crossbred program, as well as producing higher-end purebred calves.

Each of our cows has earned her place in our herd.

Things we look for in our cows include good udder quality, docility, hardiness, fertility, and overall mothering ability. We want reliable cows that know their job and do it well. We love the variety in our herd and cherish calving season, as it’s a blessing to watch these little lives grow.

Our Herd Sires

The bull is responsible for 50 percent of the genetic makeup of the calf, and so has an incredible impact on the overall herd genetics. One bull is often responsible for up to 25 head of cows. We have a controlled breeding season, and use different bulls for different purposes, to produce the right type of calves. Each year our bulls are tested for breeding soundness to prepare them for breeding season. We ensure our bulls are in top shape so they can be effective breeders. Just like everything else on the ranch, we hold them to a high standard, and give them the best care possible.

We also utilize Artificial Insemination, a very common and valuable practice in the beef industry. This gives us access to high end genetics, and different genetics, than we can have with just a few bulls. It also gives us a more specific due date, which is helpful when watching for any calving issues.

Show Calves

We focus on producing high quality, reliable cattle to add to the collective beef herd. We are grateful to the kids to want to use our calves as their show projects. We don't produce the traditional, fluffy show calves, but the calves we do sell as show calves are built to go the distance, and when judged on quality and practical beef cattle traits, they shine brightly. We are so proud of the kids who take these calves and grow them to show their true potential, they work so hard and do a great job.
